Sungei Wang Plaza launches CNY celebration to usher in the year of Monkey together with special appearance of Malaysian Famous Artists

Kuala Lumpur, 12 January 2016 – Lunar New Year, or Chinese New year as recognized by many is one of the longest festive celebration by the Chinese community worldwide.

Being one of the largest community in Malaysia, Chinese New Year is a grand celebration and is celebrated by every Chinese. In conjunction with the upcoming Lunar New Year, Sungei Wang Plaza is all set to usher in the auspicious year of Fire Monkey with a celebration themed at “Hundreds Of Lions, Centuries Of Prosperity” for local shoppers and international tourists.

"In Chinese beliefs, lions are able to extrude bad spirit, bring good luck and good omen. So, in light of this Chinese New Year celebration, Sungei Wang Plaza hopes to convey good fortune and good luck to all of our beloved shop owners, tenants and shoppers.” said Miss Natalie Leong, Executive Director (Property Management Commercial) of Knight Frank Malaysia Sdn Bhd at the launch ceremony.

Stunning LED Lion Dance Performance, Single High Pole Lion Dance Performance and Chinese New Year dance performance are parts of the opening ceremony. The ceremony has been launched by Miss Natalie Leong, Executive Director (Property Management Commercial) of Knight Frank Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Mr. Joseph Teo, Head of Marketing Communications of Sungei Wang Plaza, special artist appearance such as Adrian Tan, Alvin Chung, Eunice Hoo and Amy Wang. The artists are invited to meet the members of public and they share their childhood experiences during Chinese New Year in Sungei Wang Plaza. The artist line up have also sing Chinese New Year songs in A cappella, wishing all shoppers and tenants a Happy Chinese New Year.

The celebration starts from 9 January till 14 February 2016, with a lot of exciting performances and event line up during the weekend including different kinds of Lion dance performances, Mask Changing Performances, CNY Mini Kids Dance Performances and many more. Parents with kids can also join the CNY art and craft workshop to learn on how to create decorative arts and crafts. Prosperous giveaway is also one activity not to be missed as our God of Prosperity will give away tokens of good luck to shoppers and tourists.
For shoppers who wish to shop for All Kinds of Everything, a Chinese New Year market hall is set up right next to the centre stage. Shoppers can find some festive delights and festive season related items and merchandises ranging from food and beverages to Chinese New Year decorative ornaments here at our market hall.

The Chinese New Year Carnival is a part of the Chinese New Year program not to be missed. As a long run initiative to give back to the society, a charity bazaar will also take place in Sungei Wang Plaza during the carnival day as a part of Sungei Wang Plaza’s CSR program. The charity bazaar will be held on 16 January 2016, starting from 11am to 9pm. Hand-made products by our beloved senior citizens, food and beverages, handicraft and many more will be on sale. Members of the public are welcome to visit the bazaar to show support to their effort. Special appearance by Malaysian artist like Kah Jun will definitely hype up your weekend as he will release his new album while Amy Wang will meet and greet her supporters and fans on the same day.

Apart from the ongoing CNY celebration in Sungei Wang Plaza, shoppers and WeChat users are welcome to join the WeFans Day 2016. This event brought to you by Mobile Commerce Association of Malaysia (MOCA) for all WeChat users & fans gather together to experience the fun-filled activities such as WeChat instant photo printing, celebrity meet and greet, darts-try-out, CNY WeChat Shake & Win and many more. This event will be held for 2 days consecutively, starting from 22 till 24 January 2016, 12pm to 9pm.

For traditional costume lovers, Sungei Wang Plaza is proud to present the International Chinese Qipao Beauty Pageant Competition preview on the 20 February 2016. QiPao is a traditional Chinese costume originated from China’s Manchurian era (The Great Qing Dynasty) and is traditionally made of silk. In the recent days, QiPao is worn not only by Chinese but also by other ethnicities. This traditional and elegant costume has also become a source of inspiration to many designers across the globe. This competition will be a good platform to promote and introduce this national costume to the world stage. The event will start at 4pm.
