D' Dream Cafe @ Kuchai Lama KL

Monday, March 23, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

Dream Youth Cafe or D'Dream 又多一梦 is previously located at SS2 and now have shifted to Kuchai Lama. I came across this news when my friend shared the post in Facebook, and I make arrangement with my cousin to visit this cafe together. Parking is a bit challenging here. We have to park another row of shops even we reach early at 11.20 am.  The cafe is at first floor, which beside the Restoran Meng Kee (famous wantan noodle stall). Clear signage showing the way to the cafe and a bright pink colour door to welcome you.

We have to ring the door bell and as we entered the cafe, it is almost full. Luckily, there are two tables empty and we choose the side corner place with a long sofa. The staff politely telling us there are many customers today and our food serving time will be late. There are only rice menu left. No noodles today.

Relaxing environment

The corner seats are fully occupied. Japanese theme setting. Sitting on the floor and enjoying your food.

Adorable Doraemon collections.

The whole cafe walls are painted blue and I am truly amazed by the decorations and drawings as well. Reminds me much of my childhood favourite comic book " Doraemon" which I have lots of the comic book in Malay language.

Plenty of Doraemon collections. I spotted the cute mahjongs, cups, mugs, puzzles, and etc

I tried the Fruit Tea. Refreshing and nice drinks

My cousin try the chicken drumstick set

Braised Pork Rice ( RM 7.50). We waited for 15-20 minutes for this dish, but I still think that the waiting time is still acceptable probably I am busy admiring the Doraemon collection with my kids and they love taking pictures at every corner. Simple home cooked braised pork rice with half portion of the egg and two pieces of braised pork. The pork meat is tenderly done with perfect layer of fat. Yummy..

Overall, this place is nice to hang out, but the food and drinks choices are quite limited. Expected to wait for the food to be served as there are shortage of staffs which I can observed that.

Another fun weekend with my family hunting for food and new place.

De Asian Cafe @ Platinum Walk Setapak

De Asian Cafe is located at Platinum Walk Setapak, the cafe is still there since my last visit in 2011. They have renovated their cafe at the corner side where they used to have the place to charcoal the toast bread, but now have closed the counter. They have introduced this set lunch and set dinner which is very affordable in terms of price. Portion is also acceptable and worth the value. Price starts from RM 6.90, we can choose rice or noodles. Every drinks will need to top up RM 2.90. The staff is friendly and helpful. The environment is comfy with WIFI provided too.

Hot honey lemon

Noodle soup for the kids

Curry Laksa which I tasted so much better than Old Town cafe. Thick and concentrated curry broth topped with  shredded chicken, shrimps, fried tofu, and bean.Delicious meal.
Marmite chicken set - Generous portion that are perfect for one person servings.  Marmite sauce really adds a tangy, salty, sweet and savoury taste to the tender chicken meat. Every bite is juicy and yummy.

Crispy bread

I try this fried fish meehon. Creamy, sourish and tasty bowl of noodle..The soup has the tangy taste came from the tomatoes and salted vegetables while the fried fish is fresh ... The vermicelli has a springy texture and the soups is comforting. Ideal for lunch and dinner as well.

Canton-I

Sunday, March 22, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

Canton-I have lots of varieties and almost all the food are good quality with fresh ingredients and served fresh from the kitchen. Personally I love their congee . There are more than 8 choices of congee. I ordered the Pork congee which all served with this crispy yau cha kueh that are cut into smaller pieces. Each pieces of the yau cha kueh is very crispy, not oily though and just nice to have this to put on top of my congee.

The congee texture is very smooth and thick spread with spring onions and the pork is tender. The mixture of pork meat inside consists of the pork liver, pork meat, pork fish ball, and pork stomach. Generous portion on the portion that is good enough to be shared among two person. I will usually put the soy sauce on top of the porridge to balance up the flavour.

Canton-I  is a very nice place to dine with comfortable seats and friendly service. The most signature food is the pork meat and noodle of Hong Kong style. When I visit this restaurant, usually I will try the pork rice roasted pork. It was delicious and tender on each pieces of the pork meat. Thumbs up for the texture of the meat. Well marinated and juicy when I have my first bite. Flavoursome and succulent meat. Best to pair it with a bowl of rice and a hot soup.

As for the desserts and side dish, I will prefer Canton-I egg tarts. It was made fresh and very crispy for each bite. Warm and smooth texture of the egg custard makes this meal so satisfied and enjoyable.

Gou Lou Restaurant @ Jalan Alor, Kuala Lumpur

Craving for famous Fish Head Noodle in the bustling city of Jalan Bukit Bintang and Klang Valley area? Heading over to Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang and you can find sumptuous Fish Head Noodle that will surely palatable to your taste bud. Jalan Alor  is usually a crowded place with tourists at night and in the afternoon there are few restaurant and stalls still operating inside which offers quite good menu there. One of those are Gou Lou Restaurant. “Gou Lou” is obviously representing the physical tall guy of the owner himself. This restaurant is fully air-conditioned inside but we can also choose to sit outside. Operating from 7am to 4pm and during lunch hour the whole place is packed!

I will always order my favourite fish head noodle rated as the best seller from customer as well. You need to be patience to wait for that wonderful bowl of concentrate thick broth. The fish head is extremely fresh and well served with plentiful of fish head in it. Generous serving all the time and that what makes me come back to have more. The thick soup is added with evaporated milk in it or if you do not like the milky taste, you can request not to pour in the milk. The mixture of the sourish soup and tender fish head is amazingly good which I could not agree more. We can have two option of either choosing Thick Vicemelli or Thin Vicemelli I will said that Thick Vicemelli will be my best choice.

I also will recommend Fish Paste Noodles. The soup has a very thick flavour and was well prepared. The portion too was really huge and the homemade fish paste is fresh. A bowl of tasty noodle is really satisfying for my lunch. Most important thing is that the noodle does not have that fishy smell. The homemade Sambal is definitely worth mentioning as it was really good and super spicy.

Sate Kajang Hj Samuri

My Top favorite satay restaurant will be Sate Kajang Haji Samuri. You can get it anywhere as they have many branches all over the Klang Valley area. Sate Kajang Haji Samuri has a few branches around Kuala Lumpur. The satay is all prepared and made fresh daily with the satay meat seasoned, skewered and grilled served with the satay sauce. Sate Kajang Haji Samuri have wide selection of the satay meat. We can find diced or sliced chicken, mutton, beef, deer meat, fish, and even rabbit meat. By using more authentic version, here uses bamboo skewer.. The satay meat is marinated with turmeric and grilled barbecued over a wood and charcoal fire. Each pieces are perfectly cooked with right amount of the fats, juicy meat and tenderly soft satay meat.

The Satay is be served with a spicy peanut sauce dip gravy, slivers of onions, cucumbers, and ketupat (rice cakes). Personally I love the peanut sauce. Aromatic, appetizing and enough spice.  I can finish up to 10 sticks at one time. The chicken meat is moist and charred to perfection, tasted awesomely good. One of my favourite here is always the chicken meat and lamb meat.

Ketupat is also known as rice cake or rice dumpling, ketupat is made from rice or glutinous (dried beef of chicken curry), “Lontong”, “Lodeh” and also satay together with  the pouch, only to be satisfied with the taste and aroma of traditional ketupat. Perfectly cooked and not too soft nor hard, taste great with satay gravy. The heavenly satay is a must try here and you will surely missing the flavour. The services is fast and efficient. There are chairs and tables for you to sit back and relax while waiting patiently for the satay to be served. The sauces are made readily with the strong aroma of the peanut sauces. When I sit there and wait, I can see smell the aroma and the spices. .delicious as always it be.

Coliseum Cafe @ Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall

Sunday, March 22, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

I always wanted to try the food at Coliseum Cafe which are the legends cafe first located in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman that operated their business since 1921. Surprisingly, now we can find this restaurant branches at Midvalley, Sunway Pyramid and Plaza 33.  This restaurant is being awarded as the "Longest Operating Western Colonial" Themed Restaurant in the Malaysia Book of Records.

This is my first visit to Coliseum cafe and I was checking out the directory to locate this restaurant. It took me 10 minutes walking up and down at the ground floor and turning around until I reach Sushi Zanmai and the the staff told me I need to walk back to the entrance and walk towards Celcom building which is opposite. I managed to locate this restaurant finally! Just beside Johnny Rockets and if you are coming from the main entrance you can spot it easily.

Coliseum cafe decoration is simple and classic.. Greeted with welcome by the staff, took our orders and they do come to our request when I ask for the kids cutlery. Then, the staff turn away and started to take other customers orders and forget my request. I have to call another guy and ask again for the cutlery. This happen twice. They seems to answered you that they are going to take that tissues / cutlery, but then they tend to forget and I have to ask again.Hmm..they are not alert enough?? or they purposely ignore us?

Caramel Custard Pudding RM 7.90 - My girl pick this desserts probably because she is crazy for the cream. I will have to said that this desserts is overly sweet. Custard dessert with a layer of soft caramel on top. Traditional dessert that are loved by people of all ages, but not for me.

Hot dog (RM 2) - The one and only hot dog with salads. My girl favorite.

Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM23.90)

I ordered Coliseum signature dish most popular among all - Hainanese Chicken Chop. The deep fried chicken thigh was tenderly done with crispy layer on the outside and juicy meat inside. Dressed with thick brown sauce that is so appetizing along with other condiments of mushrooms, carrots, peas, fries, onions and tomatoes. Comfort Western food that I will surely recommend.

I will said their food is overpriced, not that what I expected to be really damn good. Anyway they greet and said "Thank You, Please come again" with a smile when i left the restaurant.

Perhaps trying out their sizzling steak for my next visit to review if that quality of food is value for money since everyone is saying their sizzling taste so good...
